Los derechos humanos no se defienden solos
Silence is not neutral—it’s a choice.
And it has a cost.
Los Derechos Humanos No Se Defienden Solos is a live transmedia campaign created in collaboration with APDHE to confront the growing global silence around human rights violations. Designed as a public intervention in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol, the project transformed real human rights abuses into a powerful sensory experience that disrupted everyday life and demanded attention.
The activation featured 10 models dressed in black, their mouths taped shut—a visual metaphor for silenced voices. Each model held a framed artwork depicting a real contemporary human rights violation, from reproductive injustice to censorship and genocide. Every frame included a QR code linked to verified cases, data, and actionable resources through APDHE.
Through performance, art, and digital storytelling, the campaign reframed silence as an active force—a choice with real consequences. By bringing human rights into a physical, public space, the project invited passersby to confront issues they might otherwise scroll past, prompting engagement, discomfort, and reflection.
The campaign ultimately achieved what it set out to do: make silence visible, transform apathy into awareness, and open a pathway for action.
